League City tournament
provides toys for kids

The South Texas Holiday Toy Drive Shootout was held Dec. 14-15 at Big League Dreams in League City. Teams donated toys as a part of their entry fee, which will helps hundreds of needy children in the Houston area have a happier holiday. In Men's C, Chaos (Houston) took 1st place, while Texas Threat/RBI (Houston) came in 2nd. In Men's D, the bad boys from Beaumont, BMT, were champs, and Houston Homies were runnerups. In Men's E, the Texas Sharks (Texas City) won 1st, while Roll It Up (Houston) finished 2nd. In the Mixed bracket, the Sluggers (Friendswood) were champions, and DCoed (Houston) was runnerup.


Steel holds off Jokers for
Hispanic Competitive title

The 2013 USSSA Hispanic World Tournament was held Nov. 9 at Big League Dreams in League City. In Men's Competitive, Steel/Suncoast Sportz (Corpus Christi) was the champion, and the Jokers (Ft. Worth) were runnerups. In Men's Recreation, Roll It Up (Houston) won first place, and H.V.A.C. (Marlin) came in second. In Men's E-Rec, Texas Momentum (Houston) was the champion, while A.T.M. (Houston) was runnerup.


NTX Fall Budfest sets
record with 168 teams

An all-time record of 168 teams from 12 states turned out for the North Texas Fall Budfest on Nov. 9-10, at Big League Dreams in Mansfield, as well as the Waxahachie Sports Complex and Virginia Weaver Park in Cedar Hill. In Men's B/C, Conference USSSA team ASPNation/Easton (D-FW) won first place, while LA Classic/Buzini/Easton (Haughton, La.) finished second. In Men's D, the Shockers (Abilene) were champions, and Rampage (Memphis, Tenn.) was runnerup. In Men's E, OuttaControl/ParadiseLawn (San Antonio) pulled a huge upset by knocking off Cage Bombs (Austin) in the championship game. In Women's, Texas Pride Women (Carrollton) came in first, while Bomb Squad (Little Rock, Ark.) finished second. And in the Mixed bracket, Most Hated (San Antonio) was the champion, and PHS/Top Notch (Dallas) was runnerup.


Hit-N-Sit and DSR/K-2
win Halloween Shootout

A "Spook-tacular" time was had by the 50 teams who participated in the Halloween Shootout on October 26-27 at Big League Dreams in League City. The weather on Saturday was picture perfect, with temperatures in the mid-tos and sunny skies. Sunday morning had brief rain showers that would have likely ended most tournaments, but not the Turf Fields at Big League Dreams. In the Men's C/D bracket, Hit-N-Sit (League City) lost their first game then won 9 in a row to claim First Place, while Canes 51210 (San Antonio) made their long trip worthwhile by finishing Second. In Men's E, DSR/K-2 Steakhouse Houston) went undefeated to win the championship, and Hardfeathers (Houston) were runnerups.


Westsiderz and Untouchables
win San Antonio Fall Shootout

The San Antonio Fall Shootout was held October 19 at Time Warner Park. In the Men's Open (C/D) Division, Westsiderz/Team Quince (San Antonio) won first place, while Mexican Invasion (San Antonio) came in second. In the Men's E Bracket, the Untouchables (San Antonio) were the champions, and the Texas Tigers (San Antonio) were runnerups.


Texas team wins 1st
at 35 & Over Worlds

Powerhouse from Houston won first palce at the USSSA Men's 35 & Over World Tournament, held October 5 at Veterans Park in College Station. After losing in the finals of the winner's bracket, Powerhouse cam back through the loser's bracket to double-dip Rockies from College Station for the crown. In the Men's 40 & Over World Tournament, RFC/KH from Wichita, Kansas was the champion, while Meridian from Houston was the runnerup. On the same weekend, the Hooters October Shootout was held at Big League Dreams in League City. Web Gems from Pasadena won first place, and Lights Out from Nacogdoches finished second.


Wish It Was Worlds
the next best thing

Teams from Texas and surrounding states who could not make the trip to Florida this year for the actual World Tournaments played the next best thing at two "Wish It Was Worlds" in Texas. North Texas Wish It Was Worlds was played at Big League Dreams in Mansfield. In Men's C/D, Triple Crown (DFW) took first place, while Texas Pride/Prototype (Ft. Worth) came in second. In Men's E, L.P.I. Softball (Fort Smith, Ark.) was the champion and The Gentlemen (Odessa) were runnerups. In Mixed, Middle's Open/A3 (Balch Springs) took first, while Bad Life Decisions came in second. And in the Women's bracket, Armed & Dangerous (Arlington) was the champion and Local Talent (Ft. Worth) was runnerup. Menwhile, the South Texas Wish It Was Worlds was played at Big League Dreams in League City. In Men's C/D, Slapaho (Dickinson) won first place, while Head First (Seabrook) finished second. In Men's E, Burn Out (Nederland) was the champion and DX (Pasadena) was runnerup.


San Antonio attracts 65 teams
for Labor Day Shootout

Labor Day weekend is always a popular softball weekend in San Antonio, and this year 65 teams headed to the Alamo City for the Labor Day Shootout at Time Warner Park. All eyes were on the loaded Men's D bracket, which included the U.S. All-Air Force Team, several former C teams, and the #2-ranked E team in the nation. First place in the Men's D bracket went to that E team, Cage Bombs (Austin) who appears ready to challenge for a high finish at Worlds. Second place in Men's D went to the Titans (San Antonio). In Men's E, Did That (Gonzales) was the champion, while B.A.M. (San Angelo) was runnerup. In the Women's division, Lady Terror (Bryan) won first place and is also poised to make some noise at USSSA Worlds. Second place in Women went to the hometown Unknowns (San Antonio). In the Mixed bracket, Saints & Sinners were champions, while WID Reloaded was runnerups.


NTX Teams Battle at
Support our Troops

The North Texas Support Our Troops Shootout was held Aug. 24-25 at Big League Dreams in Mansfield. In the Men's Open (B/C) division, ASPNation.com/Easton (DFW) won first place, while Jokers/FTP (Ft. Worth) came in second. In Men's D, Texas Pride (Ft. Worth) was the champion, and L3S (Mansfield) was runnerup. In Men's E, Tail Gunners (DFW) took first, and WTX New Era (Abilene) finished second. In the Mixed bracket, PHS/Top Notch (Dallas) was the champion, while Bustin Loose (Oklahoma City) was runnerup. The next big tournament in North Texas will be the "Wish It Was Worlds" Shootout on Sept. 21-22 at Big League Dreams in Mansfield.


East Texas represents
at 'Battle Of The Bats'

East Texas teams took home the Top 2 places out of 32 teams in the Men's E divisions at the Lone Star Shootout "Battle Of The Bats" held August 10 at Big League Dreams in Mansfield. Them Boyz (Tyler) won the championship, while East Texas Softball (Lufkin) was runnerup. In the Men's C/D bracket, Texas Pride/Prototype (Ft. Worth) won first place, and Texas Connection (Dallas) finished second. Teams were required to swing only bats that were supplied by the 8 leading bat manufacturers -- Combat, DeMarini, Easton, Louisville Slugger, Miken, Mizuno, Reebok and Worth. The 32 bats were given away as prizes at the end of the tournament.

Straight Shot/Mizuno wins
STX Women's State Crown

Straight Shot/Mizuno (Spring) followed up their Championship at "Battle For The Rings" by winning 1st Place at the South Texas USSSA Women's State Tournament, held August 10-11 at Big League Dreams in League City. Rub & Tug BBQ (Austin) was the runnerup to Staright Shot/Mizuno in the Women's division. In Men's B/C, Old School/Elite (Spring) won 1st place, while Texas Threat (Houston) came in 2nd. In Men's D, Head First (Dickinson) won the Championship, and Low Lifes 2 (Magnolia) were Runnerups. In the Mixed bracket, Sluggers (Friendswood) took home 1st place, while DCoed came in 2nd.

"Battle For The Rings"
crowns State Champs

The true State Champions of Texas softball were crowned at the Lone Star Shootout "Battle For The Rings" held July 26-28 at Big League Dreams in Mansfield. In the Mixed division, defending USSSA Mixed C World Champion Co-ed Connection (San Antonio) won first place, while DCoed (Houston) finished second. In the Women's bracket, Straight Shot/Mizuno (Spring) was the champions, and Goonie Proof (Waco) was runnerup. In Men's C, late entry Club Chill (Grapevine) captured the crown by double-dipping Texas Threat (Houston) who had beat Club Chill in the first round of the tournament. In Men's D, HKI/STFU (Austin) held off a strong challenge by neighboring Team Hood/Louisville Slugger (Killeen) to take the title. In the Men's E bracket, Cage Bombs (Austin) avenged an earlier loss by knocking off Dodging Bullets (Midlothian) for the championship.

RGV teams fill final berths
to "Battle for the Rings"

The final berths to the Lone Star Shootout "Battle for the Rings" were filled at the Rio Grande Valley Championships, held July 13 at the Brownsville Sports Complex. In Men's C/D, Olmito Heat/Miken (Olmito) won First Place, and Team MTS (McAllen) came in Second. Since Olmito Heat already had their Berth, an invitation was extended to Dirty Habits (Weslaco). In Men's E, Cash Money/CC Twins (Harlingen) were the Champions, while The Warrirors (Hondo) were Runnerups. In the Women's bracket, STX Ballbusters (McAllen) took First, and Rejects (San Juan) finished Second. In conjunction with the tournament was the "Down by the Broder" Star Baseball League, which is an association helping children with special needs. It was coordinated by Hawk Scott of the City of Brownsville.

South Texas State Finals
held at BLD-League City

The Lone Star Shootout Championship Series South Texas State Finals began on June 29-30, with three of the five divisions played at Big League Dreams in League City. In Men's D, Cross Seekers (Houma, La.) made the long trip from the New Orleans area and won First Place, while the 3rd Coast Stars (Houston) came in Second. In the Women's bracket, Straight Shot/Mizuno (Spring) was crowned Champions, and Lady Top Dog (Beaumont) was Runnerups. In Mixed, DGKoed (Houston) took the Title, and Sluggers (Friendswood) finished Second. The other two divisions of the South Texas State Finals - Men's C and men;s E - will be played July 6-7 at BLD-League City.

West Texas teams earn berths
to "Battle For The Rings"

Four teams from West Texas earned Automatic Berths to the Lone Star Shootout Grand Championship "Battle for the Rings" by placing in the top two of their respective divisions at the Lone Star West Texas Championships, held June 22 at Texas Bank Sports Complex in San Angelo. In the Men's E division, Texas Connextion/WTX Cardiology (Sonora) won first place, while Totally Disrupted (Odessa) came in second. In the Men's D bracket, Bohika (Odessa) was the champion, and Smash House Softball (Odessa) was runnerup. The "Battle for the Rings" will be held July 26-28 at Big League Dreams in Mansfield.

Brett Helmer Classic

Teams from 9 different states participated in the Brett Helmer Easton All-Star Classic on June 15-16 at Big League Dreams in Mansfield, and that diversity was reflected in the respective championship games. In Men's C, Conference USSSA team ASPNation.com/Easton (DFW) won 1st place, and the Jokers (Ft. Worth) came in 2nd. In the Women's bracket, Team Texas Blast (Lubbock) made the long trip from West Texas and was crowned champion, while Bryant Express (Bryant, Ark.) made an even longer trip from the Little Rock area and was runnerup. In Men's D, Trouble/Aw Ready (Austin) represented South Texas by winning 1st place, and Icon Machine (Little Elm) came in 2nd. In Men's E, East Texas powerhouse Them Boyz (Tyler) were the champions, while Honey Badger Mafia (Abilene) was runnerup. The next tournament in North Texas will be the Lone Star NTX State Finals on June 29-30 at Big League Dreams in Mansfield.

Memorial Day Make-up
held at Alva Jo Fischer

The Bud Light Memorial Day Make-up Tournament was held June 8 at Alva Jo Fischer Complex in San Antonio. In Men's D, the Playoffs (Seguin) rolled to first palce, while Austin Speed (Austin) came in second. In Men's E, Slik Stix (San Antonio) was the champion, and Smoking Guns (San Antonio) was runnerup. Lady Terror Squad (Bryan) won the Women's bracket, while Wicked Curves (San Antonio) came in second. In the Mixed division, The Misfits (San Antonio) won first place, and TNS (San Antonio) took second.

Titans, Cage Bombs take
titles at 6th Street Shootout

The Sixth Street Shootout was played June 1 at the Kreig Complex in Austin. In the Men's C/D bracket, the lone C team entered, Titans (San Antonio), won first place, while Canes 51210 (San Antonio) came in second. In the Men's E division, the red-hot Cage Bombs (Austin) went undefeated to claim the championship, and ATX Ratz (Austin) were runnerups. The next Lone Star Shootout for the Central Texas area will be the Lampasas Summer Shootout on June 15-16 at the 580 Complex in Lampasas.

Allegiance and HKI/STFU
meet again at Hooters III

The Hooters Shootout III was held June 1-2 at Big League Dreams in League City. In Men's C, ASPNation.com/Easton (D-FW) won first place, while Hit-N-Sit (League City) came in second. In Men's D, it was a re-match of the championship game of last month's Budweiser Softball Festival, and Allegiance (Spring) was again the champion, and HKI/STFU (Austin) was again runnerup. In Men's E, A.T.M./TI Sports (Houston) took first, and Texas Rampage (Houston) came in second. The champion of the Women's bracket was Lady Terror Squad (Bryan), while Straight Shot/Mizuno (Spring) was the runnerup. And in the Mixed bracket, DC-oed (Houston) came in first, and DGKoed (Houston) finished second. The next Lone Star Shootout in Houston will be June 15-16 at PJ's Softball Park.

Mansfield Mayfest

The Mansfield Mayfest Shootout was played May 18-19 at Big League Dreams in Mansfield, Texas. In the Men's C bracket, Cool Runnings (Wylie) was the champion, and Gold's Gym (Rowlett) was the runnerup. In Men's D, Farm Club (DFW) won 1st place, while Torres Emprire/Lethal Assault (DFW) settled for 2nd. In Men's E, Choctaw Pride (Hugo, OK) crossed the Red River to play and brought back Gold, and Texas Hitters (Glen Rose) did a great job by earning Silver. In the Mixed bracket, Bad Life Decisions (Mansfield) was the champion, while Loose Cannons (Edmond, OK) was runnerup. In Women's, Local Talent (Ft. Worth) captured 1st place, and Armed & Dangerous (Arlington) came in 2nd. The next big tournament in North Texas will be Brett Helmer's Easton All-Star Classic on June 15-16 back at Big League Dreams in Mansfield.

28th Budweiser Festival
attracts over 300 teams

The 28th Annual Budweiser Softball Festival was held May 1-3 at five complexes throughout in Bryan-College Station. The tournament began with the Men's 35 & Over bracket on Friday night, and Rockies (College Station) won 1st Place over the runnerup Bud Legends (Bryan). The remaining divisions ran all weekend and finished on Sunday night. In Men's C, Budweiser (Bryan) won 1st Place and Texas Threat (Houston) took 2nd. In Men's D, Allegiance (Spring) came from the loser's bracket to double-dip HKI/STFU (Austin) in the championship. In Men's E, Cage Bombs (Austin) was the champion, while Texas Rampage (Houston) was runnerup. In Women's B/C, Team Dallas Women (Dallas) took the title and Lady Brokers (Houston) finished 2nd. In Women's D, Goonie Proof (Waco) was the champion and Victorious Secret (Katy) was runnerup. In the Mixed bracket, Pray For Rain (Raceland, La.) made the long trip from the New Orleans area and won 1st Place, while A&D/Renegades (Austin) finished 2nd.

Texas team blasts off
at Space City Classic

ASPNation.com/Easton from Dallas-Fort Worth became the first ever Class C team to win first place in the six-year history of Conference USSSA by going undefeated at the 7th Annual Space City Classic on April 12-14 at Big League Dreams in League City. Second place went to Baugh Ford/Louisville Slugger from Alabama; third place went to Buzini/BWW/Worth from Mississippi; and fourth place went to SportsCenter/Worth also from Mississippi. The 56 non-Conference teams also competed in Consolation brackets after being eliminated from the Conference USSSA bracket. In Men's C Consolation, first place went to Hit-N-Sit (League City), while second place went to the LA Strokers (Lafayette, La.). In Men's D Consolation, BTX (Beaumont) was champions, and Playoffs (Seguin) was runnerup. IN Men's E Consolation, Texas Rampage (Houston) took first, while Smoking Guns (San Antonio) finished second.\

Hooters Shootout II

The second biggest tournament of the year in South Texas was held on March 23-24 when the Hooters Shootout II took place at Big League Dreams in League City. One of the highlights of the weekend was the return of top umpire Kenneth Saulter to the USSSA family. In the Men's B/C bracket, ASPNation.com/Easton (DFW) won first place, while Hit-and-Sit (League City) came in second. In Men's D, Head First (Dickinson) claimed the championship and Allegiance (Spring) was runnerup. In the Men's E bracket, Texas Rampage (Houston) continued their roll by winning first place, while Chop City (Houston) finished second. In the Women's division, LEGO/Texas Inks (Pearland) was the champion and Lady Oops (Houston) was runnerup.

Greg Connell Shootout
brings out the bombs

Four-time defending National Home Run Champion Greg Connell from Georgia came to North Texas on March 14-16 for his namesake GREG CONNELL SHOOTOUT at Big League Dreams in Mansfield. Festivities began with a Home Run Derby on Friday night, and balls were flying out of Polo Grounds Field despite a strong wind blowing in from left-field. The winner was Conway Waddy of Vivid/Softballmix/Tyja, who won a new WORTH bat. Great games and long home runs continued during the tournament all weekend. In the Men's B/C bracket, the Jokers (Ft. Worth) went undefeated to win 1st place, while ASPNation/Easton (D-FW) finished 2nd. In Men's D, Headrush/A&A Utility (Conroe) came up from the Houston area and claimed the championship, while OK Shockers (Colbert, OK) were runnerups. In the Men's E division, Happy Hour (West Monroe, LA) held off Them Boyz (Tyler) from East Texas in the "if" game of the championship. In the Women's bracket, Bryant Express (Bryant, AR) was the fourth champion from a different state to win 1st place, while Famous Freaks (Sanger) finished 2nd. And in the Mixed division, hometown favorite Bad Life Decisions (Mansfield) won the crown, and High Octane (Carrollton) settled for the runnerup trophy.

Leg III and STX CA$H BA$H

Two Lone Star Shootout tournaments were held on March 9 in South Texas. At the Grand Slam of San Antonio, held at Time Warner Park, the Westside Choppers (San Antonio) won first in the Men's C/D bracket and the Bandera Rottens (Bandera) took second, while OuttaControl/ParadiseLawn (San Antonio) was champion of the Men's E division and Vaqueros (Crystal City) was runnerup. Meanwhile, the STX CA$H BA$H was held at PJ's Softball Park in Spring. Guess Who (Magnolia) brought home the first place trophy, while The Brute Squad (Waller) finished second.

The Hooters Shootout I was held Feb. 23-24 at Big League Dreams in League City. In the Men's C Division, ASPNation.com/Easton (D-FW) made the long trip from North Texas and won 1st place, while Hit-and-Run (League City) came in 2nd. In Men's D, Head First (Dickinson) was the Champion, and Texas Hazmat (Conroe) was Runnerup. And in the E Bracket, Texas Rampage (Houston) came from the loser's bracket to double-dip UTM (Rockport) in the championship. The next tournament at Big League Dreams in League City will be the Hooters Shootout II on March 23-24

Texas Tigers go 6-0 to win
Leg II of Grand Slam of SA

After finishing 0-3 at the First Leg of the Grand Slam of San Antonio on Feb. 9-10, the Texas Tigers rebounded nicely to go 6-0 and win First Place in the Men's E Division at Leg II of the Grand Slam, which was held Feb. 23-24 at Time Warner Park in San Antonio. Congratulations to the Texas Tigers on their accomplishment! Slaughterhouse from Corpus Christi was the runnerup to the Texas Tigers in the E bracket. The Men's C Division featured a rivalry match-up in the championship game. Several players from the dominant 2011 & 2012 Bad Decisions team defected mid-season last year and started a new team called the Titans. Both teams made it to the top of the heap at Leg II of the Grand Slam of SA, with Bad Decisions taking First Place and the Titans finishing Second. In the Men's D Bracket, STX Militia/Resmondo Sports went undefeated to win the championship, while the SA Hitmen were runnerups. The next tournament in San Antonio will be Leg III of the Grand Slam, which will be held March 9-10 at Time Warner Park.

The Grand Slam of San Antonio got underway on Feb. 9-10 with over 60 teams participating in Leg 1 at Time Warner Park. Any team that plays in 3 of the 4 Legs gets a free entry fee to the Lone Star Shootout Southwest State Finals. In Men's C Division at Leg 1, the Westside Choppers (San Antonio) came in 1st, while FTP/Lethal Assault (San Antonio) came in 2nd. In Men's D, Playoffs (Seguin) was the champion, and SA Hitmen (San Antonio) was runnerup. In Men's E, Sucka Free (Corpus Christi) went 9-1 to double-dip Outta Control (San Antonio) for the championship. In Women's C, Connection (San Antonio) took 1st, while JBSA-Lady Warhawks came in 2nd. And in Mixed C, Squeeze Play/NES (San Antonio) was the surprise champion over runnerup Co-ed Connection (San Antonio).

The largest adult slow-pitch tournament ever in North Texas was held January 19-20 when 152 teams from 10 states converged on Big League Dreams in Mansfield for the North Texas USSSA Winter Worlds. In the stacked men's B/C Division which included 4 Conference USSSA teams, ASPNation/LouisvilleSlugger (DFW) came in 1st, while Team DeMarini/Diamond Sports came in 2nd. In the Men's D Bracket, LA Classic/Buzini/Easton (Haughton, LA) was the Champion, and Cool Runnings/Meade Servicing (Wylie) was Runnerup. In Men's E, Happy Hour (West Monroe, LA) captured 1st, while OuttaControl/ParadiseLawn (San Antonio) finished 2nd. In the Mixed Division, NEXXUS (Oklahoma City, OK) scored a huge upset by double-dipping defending World Champion Co-ed Connection (San Antonio) in the championship. Finally, in the Women's Bracket, Famous Freaks/Diamond Sports (Sanger) also came out of the loser's bracket to double-dip highly-favored KC Sker's (Kansas City, MO) for the crown. The next big event in North Texas will be the Early Bird Shootout on Feb. 9-10 at Big League Dreams in Mansfield/

South Texas Winter Worlds

The 2013 softball season got underway Jan. 12-13 when 100 teams participated at the South Texas USSSA Winter Worlds at Big League Dreams in League City. In the Men's C Division, Old School/Elite (Spring) went undefeated to capture 1st place, while DC/Y&R/A&A Utility (Houston) came in 2nd. In the Men's D Bracket, Goons/NES (Houston) was the Champion, and Texas Hazmat (Conroe) was the Runnerup. In Men's E, Team MASH (Austin) made the long trip from the Capital City and won 1st, while DX/Sports55.com (Houston) finished 2nd. The next big event in South Texas will be the Lone Star Shootout Series Kickoff Classic on Feb. 2-3 at Big League Dreams in League City.

North Texas teams
deliver toys for kids

Beautiful weather greeted 83 teams for the North Texas Holiday Toy Drive Shootout on Dec. 15-16 at Big League Dreams in Mansfield. And those teams delivered in a big way for needy children by donating toys for Christmas. In the Men's C division, The B Team (Euless) won first place by holding off Team DeMarini/Diamond Sports (Hurst) in the championship. In the Men's D bracket, Park Bums/Pops (Burleson) were the champions, while Weekend Warriors (Dallas) were runnerups. In Men's E, hometown favorite D-Bat of Mansfield (Mansfield) won first place, and Akin 2 Live (Oklahoma City) came in second. In the Co-ed Division, USSSA Mixed C world champions Co-ed Connection (San Antonio) took first, while NEXXUS (Oklahoma City) finished second. The next two tournaments at Big League Dreams in Mansfield are the New Year's Cash Bash on Jan. 5, and the North Texas Winter Worlds on Jan. 19-20.

South Texas turns out
for Holiday Toy Drive

Over 70 teams from across South Texas turned out for the STX Holiday Toy Drive Shootout on Dec. 8-9 at Big League Dreams in League City. Players donated enough toys to fill a big trailer and those will help needy children get a gift this holiday season. In the Men's C/D bracket, South Texas Posse (Pearland) claimed first place over the scrappy runnerups, DC/Y&R/A&A Utility (Houston). In the Men's E division, the Back-Alley Strokers (Spring) rolled to the championship, ahead of second place Buckwild (Houston). In the Mixed bracket, the Sluggers (Friendswood) won first place, while DGKoed came in second. And in the Women's division, Lady Terror Squad (Bryan) was the champion, and Lady Ego (Houston) was runnerup. The next Lone Star Shootout event in League City will be South Texas Winter Worlds on January 12-13.

Holiday Toy Drive
to benefit children

Texas softball players can help needy children by playing in one of two Holiday Toy Drive Shootouts. The South Texas Holiday Toy Drive will be held Dec. 8-9 at Big League Dreams in League City, while the North Texas Holiday Toy Drive will be held Dec. 15-16 at Big League Dreams in Mansfield. Teams who donate at least 10 toys will get $100 off their entry fee. Those toys will be donated to children in the area who might not otherwise get a Christmas gift this year.

The South Texas Fall Budweiser Softball Festival was held Nov. 10-11 in Bryan-College Station. In the Men's B/C bracket at Veteran's Park, Spurs/Launch/DaBomb (Houston) won 1st, while Texas Threat (Houston) came in 2nd. In the Men's D division also at Veteran's, Call Your Shot (Round Rock) was the champion, and DC/Y&R/A&A Utility (Houston) was runnerup. In Men's E at BRAC, STX Militia (San Antonio) took 1st, and Mayhem/Buzini (Houston) finished 2nd. In the Mixed division at Central Park, Co-ed Connection (San Antonio) was the champion, and DGKoed (Houston) was runnerup. In the Women's bracket at Bee Creek Park, Lil Buddies Girls (Baytown) won 1st, and Lady Hard Shots/BOB (Houston) finished 2nd.



The next weekend, Nov. 17-18, the Hooters Fall Shootout was held at Big League Dreams in League City. In the Men's C/D, DC/Y&R/A&A Utility (Houston) won 1st, while Jokers/Hit-n-Run (Houston) finished 2nd. In the Men's E division, Team Cerveceeros (Houston) was the champion, and UTM (Rockport) was runnerup.


NTX Fall Budfest
Has National Flavor

 


Teams from five different states made it to championship games at the North Texas Fall Budweiser Festival, which was held Nov. 3-4 at Big League Dreams in Mansfield -- Arkansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Tennessee and of course Texas. In the Men's B/C Division, Team DeMarini/Diamond Sports (Hurst) won 1st place, while the Jokers (Ft. Worth) came in 2nd. In the Men's D Bracket, Rampage (Cordova, Tennessee near Memphis) finished 1st, and East Coast Athletics (Rogers, Arkansas) took 2nd. In the huge Men's E Division, Akin 2 Live (Oklahoma City) was the champion and Happy Hour (West Monroe, Louisiana) was runnerup. In the Women's Bracket, LMAO (Little Rock, Arkansas) won 1st, while Famous Freaks (Sanders) came in 2nd. And in the Mixed Division, Four Deuce's (Euless) finished 1st, and Team Protoype (Euless) took 2nd). The next big event in Mansfield will be the Turkey Trot Shootout on Nov. 24-25.

Hispanic World Tournament

 


The 2012 USSSA Hispanic World Tournament was held Oct. 27 at Brownsville Sports Park in historic Brownsville. In the Men's Competitive Division, Olmito Heat from nearby Olmito won 1st place, while Team MTS from McAllen finished 2nd. In the Men's E Bracket, Gangs Back made the long trip from Sanger, California and captured the championship, and Baaaaad from Corpus Christi was runnerup, It should be noted that Baaaaad lost their first TWO games in the 3-game guarantee bracket, before bouncing back to win five straight games and make it all the way to the championship game.


Bad Decisions, Titans battle
at San Antonio Fall Shootout

 


Bad Decisions from San Antonio has been on of the most successful teams in Texas the past two years. The team was dominant in 2011 when they capped the year by finishing 3rd at the USSSA Men's E-West World Tournament. The team was bumped to D for 2012 and continued with their success. In early August, the team split and a group of former started a new team, Titans, who won USSSA Nationals in their very first tournament. The BD players who didn't go with the new team reorganized under the Bad Decisions name and started back playing in September. The two teams finally met -- twice -- at the San Antonio Fall Shootout last Saturday, Oct. 20, at Time Warner Park. In the winner's bracket finals, Bad Decisions beat Titans 15-13, then the same two teams played in the championship game, with bad Decisions winning again 14-9. Congrats to the players on both teams for continuing to be successful. In the Men's E division, We're Back - Still Choppin (San Marcos) won 1st place, while SA Militia (San Antonio) came in 2nd.

While music filled the air in nearby downtown Mansfield on Oct. 13-14, over 80 teams from seven states gathered at Big League Dreams for the Mansfield Music Festival Shootout. Championship game involved teams from West Texas, East Texas, South Texas, North Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana. There were also teams in the tournament from Arkansas and New Mexico. In Men's C, Sagnasty/Worth/Prototype (Saginaw) won 1st place, while Prototype/Soldi (Kennedale) came in 2nd. In Men's D, 214Softball/Cyklone Collision (Dallas) was champion, and Walker Timber (Longview) was runnerup. In Men's E, Mayhem made the trip down on Texas/OU weekend from Oklahoma City and won 1st place, as North Texas Takeover (Waxahachie) finished 2nd. In Mixed C/D, West Texas Smoke (Lubbock) came in from West Texas and won the championship, while Team Prototype (Euless) was runnerup. In Women's C/D, Cajun Chaos (Haughton, La.) came in from Louisiana and took 1st place, and Quiet Storm came in 2nd. The next event at Big League Dreams in Mansfield will be the North Texas Fall Budfest on Nov. 3-4. Registration is already underway.

Over 50 teams gathered at Big League Dreams in League City on Oct. 6-7 for the Hooters Fall Shootout. The pleasant Fall weather was the perfect backdrop to go along with the fine FieldTurf playing surfaces for the tournament. In the Men's C division, AMPM/Glove It Sports (Houston) won first place, while Odyssey (Spring) finished second. In the Men's D bracket, SOS Softball/Autoplex (Baytown) was the champion, and Goons/Glove It Sports (Houston) was runnerup. In the Men's E division, DTA (Houston) took home first, while Texas Rampage (Houston) came in second. The next Lone Star tournament at Big League Dreams will be the Halloween Shootout on Oct. 27-28.

'Wish It Was Worlds' Shootout

 


While hundreds of teams were battling it out in Florida at the USSSA World Tournaments, about 85 from Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and all across Texas settled for the next best thing -- the "Wish It Was Worlds" Shootout, held Sept. 22-23 at Big League Dreams in Mansfield. In the Men's D Division, Walker Timber (Longview) made the trip from East Texas to take first place, while Split-T.com/Turmoil (Oklahoma City, OK) came down from across the Red River to finish second. In the Men's E bracket, North Texas Takeover (Waxahachie) was the champion, and The Texas Outlaws (Arlington) were runnerups. In Mixed, Team Krush (Euless) crushed the competition to take the crown, while PHS/ASPNation.com (Dallas) took second. In the Women's bracket, HarmsWay (Ft. Worth) won first, and Lady Canes II (Ft. Worth) was runnerup. The next tournament at BLD in Mansfield will be the Mansfield Music Festival Shootout on Oct. 13-14.

Support Our Troops

 


South Texas teams turned out in droves to show their support for the U.S. Military by participating in the Support Our Troops Shootout on Sept. 8-9 at Big League Dreams in League City. Players donated used bats, balls, gloves and other equipment, which will be combined with donations from North Texas and shipped overseas so members of the Armed Forces can enjoy playing softball in their spare time. In the Men's C/D bracket, Hit and Run (D team from Danbury) won 1st, while the U.S. All-Air Force Team (based in San Antonio) finished 2nd. In the Men's E division, Mayhem (Houston) was the champion, and Dirty Sox (Conroe) was runnerup. In the Women's bracket, Lady Edo (Pearland) took 1st place, while Victorious Secret (Spring) took 2nd.

The Lone Star Softball Labor Day Shootout was held Sept. 3-4 at Time Warner Park in San Antonio. In the Men's C/D Division, Tribe Del Rio (Del Rio) won 1st Place, while Manny's Electric from the Valley (Weslaco) took 2nd. In the Men's E Bracket, the Bandera Rottens (Bandera) were Champions, and Did That (Gonzalez) was Runnerups. In the Women's Division, Tema Bring It (Pearsall) won 1st Place, while the Unknowns (San Antonio) came in 2nd. And in the Co-ed Bracket, Brown Pride (San Marcos) won 1st Place, and Constant Runs (San Antonio) came in 2nd.

Two special tournaments were held Aug. 25-26. The North Texas Support Our Troops Shootout was held at Big League Dreams in Mansfield. In Men's D, Sinister/RL Transport (Breckenridge) won 1st, while Park Bums/Reyes Logistics (Burleson) came in 2nd. In Men's E, The Texas Outlaws (Arlington) were Champs, and Texas Havoc (Arlington) was Runnerups. In Women's, Cajun Chaos (Haughton, La.) took 1st, while Quiet Storm (Killeen) came in 2nd. And in Mixed, Team Prototype (Dallas) were Champions, and Dirty Crew (Athens) were Runnerups. Meanwhile, the South Texas USSSA National Tournament was held at Veteran's Park in College Station. The Titans (San Antonio) won 1st place in the Men's D bracket, while the Back-Alley Strokers (Spring) won 1st in the Men's E bracket with Lone Star Crooks (Houston) finishing 2nd.

The South Texas USSSA State Tournaments were held Aug. 11-12 in Greater Houston. Men's C, Men's D and Women's was held at Big League Dreams in League City, while Men's E was held at PJ's Softball Park in Spring. In Men's C, AMPM/Glove It Sports (Houston) won 1st, and Steel/AYS/Glove It Sports (Corpus Christi) took 2nd. In Men's D, Team Worth It/Star Bar (Beaumont) was the champion, while Hit and Run Softball (Danbury) was runnerup. In Women's, Rub and Tug BBQ (Austin) claimed 1st place, and Lady Terror Squad (Bryan) finished 2nd. In Men's E, Mayhem (Houston) was the champion, while Guess Who (Magnolia) was runnerup.

Teams from all corners of Texas converged on Big League Dreams in Mansfield on July 27-29 for the Lone Star Shootout Grand Championship "Battle for the Rings." In the Men's B/Conference C Division, Miken Mafia/ASPNation.com (Rowlett) won 1st and Sagnasty/Worth/Prototype (Saginaw) cam in 2nd. In the Men's C Bracket, Texas Regulators (Garland) lost their very first game then fought all the way back through the loser's bracket to win the Championship, while Olmito Heat/Rios (Olmito) were Runnerups. In the Men's D Division, DC/Y&R (Houston) finished 1st, and the Hitmen (San Antonio) took 2nd. In the Women's Bracket, Team Dallas Women (Dallas) redeemed their 2nd place finish from 2011 by winning the crown this year, as HarmsWay (Ft. Worth) came in 2nd. Finally, in the Mixed Division, Alldaysports.com (Carrollton) were the Champions, and Co-ed Connection (San Antonio) were Runnerups. Huge crowds packed the park on Friday night for three All-Star Games. In the opener, the North Texas Women defeated the South Texas Women. In the Men's D/E Game, South Texas upended North Texas to make it 1-1. In the deciding third game, the North Texas Men's B/C teams crushed the South Texas Men's B/C team.

State Champions were crowned in 8 divisions at two different Lone Star Shootout State Finals locations on June 30-July 1. Three divisions of the South Texas State Finals were held at Big League Dreams in League City. In the Men's D division, Dynasty (Bryan) went undefeated to win the championship, and DC/Y&R (Houston) was runnerup. In the Mixed C/D bracket, the Sluggers (Friendswood) won first place, while Craftmasters/Half Nuts (Brenham) finished second. In the Women's division, Straight Shot/Mizuno (Spring) was crowned champs, and Lady Brokers(Houston) were runnerups. Meanwhile, in San Antonio, all five divisions of the Southwest State Finals were played. In Men's C, Olmito Heat/Rios (Olmito) won first place, and Steel/AYS/Glove It (Corpus Christi) finished second. In Men's D, JBSA Lackland (San Antonio) came from out of the loser's bracket to double dip Team FU/Louisiana Transport (San Antonio) for the crown. In Men's E, Tremendos (Laredo) won first place, while GT Crew/CSC (Seguin) took second. In the Mixed bracket, Angels & Demons (Austin) were the champions. And in the Women's division, Connection (San Antonio) won first place.


Teams get "Last Chance"
to qualify for State Finals


Eighty-one teams took advantage of the Last Chance Shootout -- held June 16-17 at Big League Dreams in Mansfield -- to either qualify for their respective Lone Star Shootout Series State Championship Finals, or improve their point situation for those events. In the Men's C division, the red-hot Texas Regulators (Garland) won first place by holding off runnerup Sagnasty/Worth/Prototype (Saginaw) in the championship. In the Men's D bracket, Bass Tools (Bossier City, LA) made the long trip from the Bayou State to win first place, while Famous/A3 Construction (Ellis County) came in second. In the Men's E division, B.O.B. (Houston) was the champion, and the Cen-Tex Outlaws (Harker Heights) were runnerups. In the Women's bracket, Cajun Chaos (Haughton, LA) won first place, while the Famous Freaks (Sanger) came in second. In the Mixed division, the Big Stix (Waco) were champions, and High Octane (Carrollton) were runnerups. Next up are the State Finals in four areas: North Texas (Mansfield), South Texas (League City), Southwest (San Antonio) and West Texas (San Angelo). The top two finishers in each city qualify for the Grand Championship "Battle for the Rings" while a few at-large berths will be awarded based on Lone Star Points.

wins Space City Classic


The No. 1-ranked teams in the nation, Resmondo/Specialty Tank/Worth (Winter Haven, FL) went undefeated through six games to win first place at the 6th Annual Space City Classic Conference USSSA Major N.I.T. on June 1-3 at Big League Dreams in League City. There were 50 teams in the tournament, making it the largest Conference USSSA tournament for the fourth year in a row. Runnerup went to Buzinisports.com/BWW/Worth (Jackson, MS) while third place was Miken Mafia/ASPNation.com (Rowlett, TX) and fourth place went to Headhunter/Cancooker/SHSSports.com (Fayetteville, GA). In addition to the main bracket, there were three separate Consolation brackets. In the Men's C Consolation, Monster Softball (Little Rock, AR) won first place. In the Men's D Consolation, Bad Decisions (San Antonio) won first, and BTX Bulls/Elite Sports (Beaumont) came in second. In the Men's E Consolation, S.A. Law (San Antonio) took first, and the Goons (Houston) finished second.


27th Annual Budfest
Crowns Texas Kings


The "Undisputed King of Softball Tournaments" in Texas was held May 4-6 in Bryan-College Station, as the 27th Annual Budweiser Softball Festival ran around-the-clock for over 50 consecutive hours from Friday evening until after midnight Sunday night. In the Men's C Division, Steel/AYS/Glove It Sports (Corpus Christi) won 1st, and Disturbed Softball (Baytown) took 2nd. In the Men's D Division, LA CLassics/Buzini (Haughton, LA) won 1st, and Wharton's Worst Nightmares (Wharton) finished 2nd. In the Men's E Division, the Goons (Houston) won 1st, and Mayhem (Conroe) took 2nd. In the Women's B/C Division, Derby Girls (Seattle, WA) won 1st, and Rub and Tug BBQ (Austin) came in 2nd. In the Women's D Division, Famous Freaks (Ft. Worth) won 1st, and B&T Express (Houston) finished 2nd. In the Mixed C/D Division, Sluggers (Friendswood) won 1st, and Ball So Hard/Mizuno (Sugar Land) took 2nd. The Bud Girls were out on Friday night to welcome the teams along with USSSA Vice President Kevin Naegele, Jack Hilliard Distributing Manager Alan Bingham, and South Texas USSSA State Director Greg Huchingson. Later that night, the Bud Girls congratulated the Home Run Derby Champion Kris Miller.


Hooters II Winners


Over 80 teams competed at the Hooters Shootout II on March 24-25 at Big League Dreams in League City. In the Men's B/C Division, Texas Miken (Pearland) won 1st Place. In the Men's D Bracket, Bad Decisions (San Antonio) made the long trip from the Alamo City and went undefeated to take the crown, while the 409ers (Galveston) finished second. In the Men's E Division, the champions were Batteries Plus (College Station), and the runnerups were Dirty Sox/On The Rox (Conroe). The next big event in South Texas will be the 27th Annual Budweiser Softball Festival on May 5-6 in Bryan-College Station.

a 'big hit' in North Texas


Teams from Michigan, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana joined others from across Texas at the Greg Connell Shootout, held March 3 at Big League Dreams in Mansfield, Texas. Connell, the 4-time defending Conference USSSA Home Run King, was on hand at the tournament to visit with teams and put on a hitting exhibition. In the Men's C Division, Sagnasty/Worth/Prototype (Saginaw) won 1st Pace, while Prototype/Hogwild/Soldi came in 2nd. In the Men's D Bracket, where 7 of the Top 8 teams were from different states, Bass Tools (Shreveport, LA) was the Champion, and H&H (Waxahachie) was Runnerup. In the Men's E Division, Cen-Tex Outlaws (Harker Heights) won 1st Place, while Monsters (Paris) came in 2nd. In the Women's Bracket, Cajun Chaos (Haughton, LA) was the Champion, and Team Dallas Women (Dallas) was Runnerup. The #1 Power Hitter in America, WORTH's Greg Connell, will be at Big League Dreams in Mansfield, TX on March 3-4, 2012 for the GREG CONNELL SHOOTOUT. Connell has won the Conference USSSA Home Run Title 4 years in a row, including 2011 when he hit 119 Home Runs. He also won 1st Place at the 2011 Long Haul Bombers Power Tour Finals at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. In Mansfield, Connell will meet with players, perform a hitting exhibition, show his techniques and even hit against the winner of a WORTH 454 Home Run Derby. NTX Winter Worlds
Attracts 140 Teams


One-hundred forty teams came to Big League Dreams in Mansfield on Jan. 21-22 weekend for the Lone Star North Texas Winter Worlds. The top 24 teams in each division received National-Level USSSA Points to get their seasons started with a bang. In the Men's B/C Division, Who (Garland) won 1st Place with L.C. Watson and Kevin Ballard playing for them. New Conference USSSA team Miken/Mafia/ASPNation.com (Dallas) finished 2nd. In the Men's D Bracket, AM/PM Softball (Houston) made the four-hour trip up Interstate 45 and went undefeated to win the title, while War Party/Garcia Inc. (Allen) were runnerups. In the Men's E Division, North Texas Takeover (Waxahachie) won 1st Place, with Texas Chaos (Flint) finishing 2nd. In the Women's C/D Bracket, Lady Terror Squad (Bryan) kept their hot steak going by winning the championship, and HarmsWay (Ft. Worth) were runnerups. In the Mixed C/D Division, a pair of out-of-state teams took top honors. 2-And-Que (Haughton, LA) came in 1st, and Legendz Sports (Tulsa, OK) finished 2nd. The next tournament at Big League Dreams in Mansfield will be the North Texas Early Bird Shootout on Feb. 11-12. Registration is already underway.

The 2012 season got started with a bang at the Lone Star South Texas Winter Worlds on Jan. 14-15 at Big League Dreams in League City. Over 100 teams came out and competed in unseasonably warm weather for National Level USSSA Points. In the Men's B/C Division, a pair of C teams came out on top as Disturbed Softball (Baytown) went undefeated to win 1st place, and recently bumped D team Texas Bombers (Houston) made an impressive showing by coming in 2nd. The Men's D Bracket was dominated by teams who were recently bumped from E to D. Bad Decisions (San Antonio) was the champion, while Team Worth It (Orange) was runnerup. In the Men's E Division, Dirty Sox (Conroe) held off a late challenge to win 1st place, and B&N Sportsbar/Texas Crooks (San Antonio) settled for 2nd. In the Mixed C/D Bracket, Whut It Dew (San Antonio) was the champion, while Angels & Demons (Round Rock) finished 2nd. The next Lone Star Tournament at BLD-League City will be the Lone Star Shootout Kickoff Classic on Feb. 4-5.
